Every trekking region in Nepal requires at least one permit, and since April 2023 foreign trekkers must also walk with a licensed guide in national parks and conservation areas. Restricted areas — such as Manaslu, Tsum and Upper Mustang — need an additional special permit, issued through a registered agency with a licensed guide. When you trek with us, all permits are arranged and included in the price.

Permits by region

Region Permits needed Approx. cost
Everest Sagarmatha National Park; Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality NPR 3,000 + NPR 3,000
Annapurna Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP); TIMS card NPR 3,000 + NPR 1,000
Langtang Langtang National Park; TIMS card NPR 3,000 + NPR 1,000
Manaslu Manaslu Restricted Area Permit; MCAP; ACAP US$75–100 for the first week + NPR 3,000 × 2
Upper Mustang Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit; ACAP US$50 per day + NPR 3,000

Fees are set by the government and local authorities and change from time to time. We always charge the current official rate.

The licensed-guide rule

Since 1 April 2023, the Nepal Tourism Board requires foreign trekkers to be accompanied by a licensed guide in protected areas. The Everest region’s local authority applies its own rules, but we only run guided treks everywhere — it is safer, and guides handle the permit checks on the trail.

Restricted areas

Restricted-area permits are issued only:

  • through a registered trekking agency,
  • with a licensed guide for the whole trek.

Until March 2026 they also required at least two trekkers. Since 22 March 2026 a single trekker can get one, so solo travellers can now do Manaslu, Tsum and Upper Mustang with a guide. Upper Mustang changed from a US$500 10-day block to US$50 per day in late 2025.

We apply in Kathmandu with scans of your passport and visa, so send them to us 7–10 days before the trek (or on arrival for Upper Mustang).

What to carry

Keep your passport with you on the trek — it is checked with your permits at several posts. Your guide carries the permits themselves.

Restricted areas, made simple

Manaslu, Tsum and Upper Mustang need special permits issued through a registered agency, with a licensed guide. Solo trekkers have been allowed since March 2026. Send us a scan of your passport and visa and we handle the application.

Frequently asked questions

Are permits included in your trek prices?

Yes. All national park, conservation area and restricted-area permits for the trek are included.

Can I get permits myself?

For national parks you can, but a licensed guide is still required. Restricted-area permits can only be issued through a registered agency.

Is the TIMS card still needed?

Yes in the Annapurna and Langtang regions. The Everest region uses its local municipality permit instead.
